Sir
John Soane’s Museum in London is the former home of
one of Britain’s most famous architects. At the time
of his death, Sir John bequeathed his home to the
nation under the condition that nothing be changed.
As a result, visitors to the Museum have been treated
to its vast and varied collection that includes two
of Hogarth’s Rake’s Progress series.
For
the past five years, the Museum has commissioned AEA
to collect information on its visitors. Each year,
AEA works closely with the Museum’s senior staff and
docents to develop a visitor survey that includes
questions about general interest in the visual arts,
design and architecture, patterns of consumer behavior,
how visitors found out about the museum, interest
in special exhibitions and the level of satisfaction
with various interpretive materials.
The
Museum uses the results of the survey to evaluate
current exhibitions, plan future events and programs
and, most importantly, secure operational funding
from various government agencies.
